Oxford (05.05.09) Usual British Bank Holiday rain and bad weather at Oulton Park yesterday, leading to changes in the race day schedule, meant that British Superbike Championship (BSB) Legend James Whitham was unable to take to the track aboard the Harley-Davidson® XR1200® race bike.
However, ultra keen Sean Emmett – who first rode the machine at the opening round of the domestic series at Brands Hatch – couldn’t resist snatching an opportunity to take James’ place for a second outing on the Harris-upgraded, Dunlop-shod XR1200® motorcycle.
The BSB bad boy, who is more accustomed to Japanese Supersport and Superbike machinery, was surprised by the performance of the machine, which is the development motorcycle for the 2010 Henderson Harley-Davidson® XR1200® Trophy race series. He is already keen to sign up to take part in the new championship that will be launched at Silverstone in September, following an international battle of XR1200® race machines.
Emmett – who now has a feel for the bike – is eager to continue with his role in the development of the machine and has been impressed with the rapid progress made by Harris Performance and Harley-Davidson UK. The next round of BSB at Donington Park on 23-25 May will see three of the development machines take to the track with some exciting new BSB Legends playing a part in the race testing programme for the XR1200®.
