Riders signs Mike Edwards and Sean Emmett

Oxford (10.03.10) Riders of Bristol and Bridgwater are excited to announce the signing of British motorsport stars Mike Edwards and Sean Emmett to its racing team. The experienced duo will contest Riders Harley-Davidson® XR1200® race bikes in the inaugural Harley-Davidson XR1200® Trophy race series at the 2010 British Superbike Championship.

Riders Racing was formed in 2004 and the team has a successful pedigree in the British Superstock, Supersport and Superbike championships. Mike and Sean’s signing to the Riders group’s race team symbolises its commitment to continuing its on-track successes and winning the 2010 XR1200 Trophy.

Mike ‘Spike’ Edwards has enjoyed a long and successful career in motorcycle racing, clinching his first two-wheel championship in 1988. The Harrogate-based rider has also has invaluable experience in public roads racing, including winning the Macau Grand Prix and North West 200 on Supersport machines.

Sean Emmett is best known for his career in the British Superbike Championship. However, he has been working closely with Harley-Davidson UK and Ireland in the development of the XR1200 race bike over the past year. The Hertfordshire rider took to the track aboard the Harris-upgraded machine in special displays at two of the 2009 British Superbike events. Emmett was suitably impressed with the XR1200’s capabilities, and is looking forward to participating in the 2010 XR1200 Trophy as part of the Riders Racing team.

“The XR1200 is a really great motorcycle,” enthused Emmett after his first ride on the machine at Brands Hatch in 2009. “The handling is really smooth and the suspension is great. It was a little heavier than I’m used to through the chicane, but it flows smoothly through single bends. Once I’d adjusted to the riding style, I was really starting to enjoy it.”

“We are delighted to have Mike and Sean on board with us for our campaign in the XR1200 Trophy,” says Managing Director Phil Jessopp. “Racing and Harley-Davidson® motorcycles are in our blood, so we’re looking forward to a successful 2010 on the track.”

The XR1200 Trophy, which is officially supported by Harley-Davidson UK and Ireland, is designed to attract a varied mix of Clubman, Superbike and Superstock contenders as well as younger stars looking to develop their racing skills. The series kicks off at Oulton Park in Cheshire on 1-3 May. Subsequent events will be staged at Brands Hatch, Cadwell Park, Knockhill and Mallory Park, and all races will be shown on British Eurosport.
